DeLille Cellars’ 2024 Chaleur Blanc marks the 30th vintage of one of Washington’s defining white wines, capturing the balance, richness, and energy that have made this Bordeaux-inspired blend a benchmark for the Columbia Valley. Served at the White House across three administrations, Chaleur Blanc remains one of DeLille’s most influential wines, today crafted under Vice President of Winemaking Jason Gorski. The 2024 brings together 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, sourced from an exceptional collection of Columbia Valley vineyards including Sagemoor, Boushey, Klipsun, Olsen, Phinny Hill, and Conner Lee. The fruit is whole-cluster pressed, with 84% fermented in French oak, including 37% new barrels, and 16% in stainless steel, followed by six months on the lees with weekly bâtonnage. That careful élevage gives the 2024 its distinctive combination of texture and freshness. DeLille describes bursts of green kiwi and ripe peach followed by gardenia and honeysuckle, with those aromatics carrying onto a palate layered with sweet oak spice and a generous, creamy texture from sur-lie aging. Refreshing acidity and a persistent mineral character provide the counterpoint, keeping the wine energetic despite its breadth and richness.
