Oakville has no shortage of coveted Cabernet Sauvignon, but only one is made like this. For the 2023 Oakville Winegrowers Cuvée, member wineries contributed select lots from their own cellars to create a single, appellation-wide blend, offering a perspective on Oakville that no individual estate could produce. In a region defined by famous vineyards, this is something entirely different: Oakville putting the appellation itself first. For 2023, that collective voice landed in the capable hands of Mark Fasi, who spent more than two decades working alongside Heidi Barrett before succeeding her as Paradigm’s winemaker. Fasi blended the Cuvée at Paradigm, where it was also cellared and bottled, then aged in French oak. And the vintage gave him exceptional material to work with. Napa Valley’s 2023 growing season was among its longest in a decade, with mild weather and extended hang time. The Cuvée emerged with intense color, silky structure, polished tannins, and layers of dark fruit, violet and spice, with the structure to reward years in the cellar. The catch is how little exists: roughly twenty cases of 750ML bottles, one hundred Magnums, and just twenty Double Magnums. An entire appellation, captured in a wine destined for very few cellars.
