Wine Spectator

"A perfumed, inviting version, with rose and white raspberry on a broad frame, cut with a swath of bitter, chalky mineral notes and fine acidity. Smoky and succulent at the close, with hidden power and finesse. Drink now. 150 cases imported."

Decanter

"Lightly spicy strawberry and raspberry, quite full and voluminous palate. Fresh, balanced, drinkable and energetic Tavel. Very moreish. All aged in stainless steel."

About This Wine

More about the 2023 Domaine de la Mordorée La Dame Rousse Tavel Rosé: Crafted by Domaine de la Mordorée, La Dame Rousse Tavel Rosé is a benchmark expression of one of France’s most historic and revered rosé appellations. Tavel, the only AOC in the Rhône Valley dedicated exclusively to rosé, produces wines of remarkable depth and character, and La Dame Rousse exemplifies this tradition. Sourced from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards in the stony, galet-strewn soils of Tavel, this cuvée is a blend dominated by Grenache, with contributions from Cinsault, Syrah, and other permitted Rhône varietals. These sun-drenched vines, rooted in terroir famed for its heat-retaining stones and mistral-swept climate, produce fruit of exceptional concentration and balance. Unlike the pale, ephemeral styles of neighboring Provence, La Dame Rousse stands out with its vivid ruby hue and textural complexity. The wine undergoes a short maceration to extract color and structure, followed by vinification in stainless steel to preserve its bright fruit and mineral clarity. On the nose, it offers a medley of wild strawberry, red currant, and blood orange, lifted by hints of garrigue and white pepper. The palate is firm yet elegant, with a savory undercurrent and a dry, persistent finish—a rosé built not only for refreshment but also for the table, capable of pairing with a wide range of cuisine from Provençal dishes to roasted poultry and grilled Mediterranean vegetables. Domaine de la Mordorée, under the late Christophe Delorme and now continued by his family, has long been lauded for its commitment to sustainability and precision. La Dame Rousse is a reflection of this philosophy—a rosé that embodies both the soul of Tavel and the meticulous craftsmanship that has made the domaine one of the Rhône Valley’s most esteemed producers. In a category too often associated with simplicity, this wine offers an enduring reminder that rosé, in the right hands and from the right place, can be as profound and age-worthy as its red and white counterparts.
