Most vineyards today follow a clear set of modern rules. Bucklin’s Old Hill Ranch ignores nearly all of them. More than thirty grape varieties share the same twelve acres, planted as a true field blend in 1885 and still harvested together as one. The Bucklin family has left the original design untouched for generations, so every bottle of the Ancient Field Blend carries the site’s complete story rather than a collection of separate lots. Their work in the cellar stays deliberately simple. The entire Ancient Block is picked at once, fermented together in small open-top tanks, then aged eighteen months in French oak. The wine’s character was already set in the vineyard long before it reached the cellar. Old Hill Ranch has lasted because successive generations chose stewardship over reinvention.
