Barnett’s Rattlesnake has marked the high point of the estate’s work on Spring Mountain since its first vintage in 1991. Only the finest barrels of Cabernet earn a place in the final blend, each one selected through blind tasting before assembly. The 2023 continues that exacting path, delivering the precision, depth, and clear mountain signature that have established Rattlesnake among Napa Valley’s benchmark Cabernets. The 2023 growing season gave the team one of the longest, most deliberate harvests in Barnett’s history. Generous winter rains replenished the soils, while an unusually cool spring and summer slowed ripening across Spring Mountain. Fruit stayed on the vine longer than normal and was harvested from October 30 through November 20, allowing every cluster time to develop exceptional complexity while keeping the freshness and structure that define great mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. With fruit of that caliber, the cellar work stayed focused and measured. Winemaker David Tate guided each lot through fermentation, then aged the wine for 22 months in French oak so every element could reach full expression. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable harmony and refinement, one that earned a 98-point score from Wine Advocate.
