More About 2022 Apsara Petaluma Gap Sonoma Coast Chardonnay Robin Akhurst discovered his love for wine while attending Edinburgh University, and upon graduating, he hopped on his motorbike and rode down to Provence in Southern France. Two years later, he was a proud graduate with an Enology degree, and looking for hands-on experience, he worked with Anne Claude Leflaive at Domaine Leflaive in Burgundy, Matt Wenk of Two Hands Wines in the Barossa, Thomas Rivers Brown of Schrader and Outpost Cellars, and Mike Smith of Myriad and Carter Cellars in Napa Valley. Robin and his wife Aneeta met while studying biology and environmental science in Indonesia, and as cofounders of Apsara Cellars, there is a substantial focus on organic, biodynamic, and sustainable vineyard and winery practices. “Apsara” is a Sanskrit word that translates to an angelic dancer with balance, purity, and expression, accurately describing their 2022 Petaluma Gap Chardonnay. This elegant offering was aged eight months in once-used French oak, giving some body and complexity while maintaining the identity of the fruit and terroir.
