About This Wine

2021 KOCHANA MIL VISTAS VINEYARD RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY PINOT NOIR Kochana Pinot Noir combines remarkable talent, well-rounded skills, and a passion for winemaking that genuinely sets it apart. After graduating from Cal Poly in 2012, Anie Peszynski-Jones worked her first harvest for Skinner Vineyards and moved to Napa near the end of the year. Anie later had the opportunity to work a harvest in New Zealand for Craggy Range, and upon returning to California, she's been a part of Hunnicutt, Flowers, and Mending Wall alongside Thomas Rivers Brown. Kochana (pronounced Ko-Ha-Na) translates to Dearest in Polish, commemorating and honoring Anie's Polish ancestors and celebrating her sincere passion for crafting remarkable wine. Planted in 1992, the Mil Vistas Vineyard thrives on the Sonoma Coast's revered Goldridge loam soils, creating a distinctive, pure, remarkable expression of Pinot Noir fruit. The 2021 is Anie's fifth vintage from this vineyard, and her respect and appreciation for the individual site shines through in this stunning expression of hand-crafted Pinot Noir. WINERY NOTES: 2021 Kochana Wines Mil Vistas Vineyard Pinot Noir Clones 115, 23 & Pommard 25% Whole Cluster Ferment 25% New French Oak 4 Barrels Produced Unfined/Unfiltered Hand Harvested Tasting Note Exemplifying the traditional yet refined characteristics of Russian River Valley, the Mil Vistas Pinot Noir on the nose, expresses bright fruit such as Bing cherry, pomegranate and rhubarb partnering elegantly with earthy spices of clove and black tea. Heightened acidity helps carry out the ripe and lush tannins in the notably savory finish. Mil Vistas Vineyard Green Valley, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast Over the past five years of working with the Mil Vistas Vineyard, Anie has developed a great appreciation and respect for the unique site and dedicated family who has farmed it for years. Located just outside Occidental, the vineyard sits upon world-renown classic Goldridge loam soil which has defined the Sonoma Coast AVA for decades. Mystic foggy mornings, lush rolling hills and proximity to the Pacific Ocean aide in a slow ripening season which is ideal for the French Pinot Noir clones of Dijon 115 and Pommard 5, and the Swiss clone 23. Planted in 1992, Mil Vistas Vineyard exemplifies year after year the consistency of quality through organic farming and shines through to the Kochana winemaking style.
