More About the 2021 BARNETT VINEYARDS RATTLESNAKE SPRING MOUNTAIN CABERNET SAUVIGNON: Barnett Vineyards' inaugural release of Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon in 1989 yielded 232 cases, and though the winery has grown and expanded, the winery's mission to produce wines that showcase the terroir and the variety has not changed. Sitting at a height of 2050 feet, the estate is perched above the fog line that covers the Valley floor and receives about three hours more of sunlight which helps the grapes reach prime phenological ripeness, depth, and complexity. The Rattlesnake Cabernet Sauvignon is the winery's flagship wine, and the fruit is selected from separate small lots that display the most outstanding character and highest quality. 33.9% of the Cabernet harvested in 2021 was selected for the Rattlesnake and was meticulously aged 22 months in French oak barrels from 14 different cooperages, fully integrating the wine's flavor profile and seductive structure. Winery Notes: "The color of the 2021 Rattlesnake is near opaque purple. The nose is very intense, with blackberry pie, caramel, dark roast coffee, cola, and raspberry reduction pouring out of the glass. Under these intense aromatics hides some volcanic minerality and crushed violets. The wine is ultra rich, plush and powerful on the palate. Darker fruit comes out, mostly reduced cassis matched by intense dark chocolate. The tannins are big, chalky, and matched by the famous Spring Mountain acidity. Dark chocolate covered cherries linger on the finish. This is an intense powerful wine that is barely starting to show the myriad of flavors it has to offer 19-20 years (2042-2043)."
