Wine Advocate

“Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 Faurie de Souchard bursts with Black forest cake, Morello cherries and baked plums plus touches of black tea, rose hips, star anise and lilacs. Big, rich, super concentrated and plushly textured, it gives layer upon layer of perfumed black fruits, finishing long and fragrant. 93-95 Points ”

“Another gem of a 2018 is the 2018 Château Faurie De Souchard. Offering a ruby/purple hue as well as gorgeous cassis and black raspberry fruits, it has lots of spice, dried flowers, and sandalwood notes, medium to full body, ripe, silky tannins, and just a seamless, already delicious, balanced style that's going to drink nicely for 15 years.”

“The 2018 Faurie de Souchard, which was so impressive in barrel, continues to convey real class now in bottle. It has an intense bouquet of slightly earthy black fruit laced with pencil lead and light blood orange aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite opulent in style, but it retains superb balance and there is a welcome spiciness that lends dimension on the finish. This is very promising but it needs 3-4 years in bottle." Reviewed 1/21”

About This Wine

The 2018 Château Faurie de Souchard puts eight years between harvest and your corkscrew. The wine has evolved beautifully, backed by a 12-hectare Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estate rooted in clay-limestone soils. That combination of pedigree, place, and bottle age gives the 2018 a depth few young Bordeaux releases can match. The vineyard’s exposure is one of its great strengths. Faurie de Souchard sits on Saint-Émilion’s north-facing slope, where cooler conditions help moderate hot, dry periods. The château sees that natural freshness as central to its style, keeping the wine energetic even as it gains richness and maturity. Dassault Wine Estates has owned Faurie de Souchard since 2013, bringing a highly precise approach to the cellar.Individual parcels are handled separately, allowing each part of the vineyard to contribute on its own terms before the final blend comes together. Now fully into its stride, the 2018 shows exactly why the vintage earned such strong critical praise.
