More about 2018 Château Haut Bertinerie Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux Grand Vin The same family has owned Château Haut Bertinerie for almost two centuries, and they attribute their successes to the right combination of innovation, tradition, and experience. The family began to convert their 148 acres of vines to a double hedge form of training known as Lyre in 1987, which the National Institute of Agronomy controls and has been studying for over 20 years. The Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux AOC lies on the Right Bank with clay and limestone soils that elevate red wines, predominately Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, with soft, balanced tannins. The 2018 Grand Vin is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 90% new barrels, plus another eight months in vats, resulting in a charming wine ready to enjoy now and for the next five years or so.
