LunaGaia was created from a partnership between Cantina Orsogna and BioGaia, a collective of biodynamic growers in western Sicily, with the goal of expressing the island through its native grapes. Agramante is made entirely from Grillo, a variety whose history is closely tied to western Sicily and Marsala. Created in the late nineteenth century from Catarratto and Zibibbo, Grillo has the natural freshness and Mediterranean character to thrive under Sicily’s intense sun while retaining the energy that makes it such a compelling dry white. The farming and cellar work are deliberately straightforward. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, and the grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed, and fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeast. The wine remains on its lees in tank for four months, followed by at least two additional months in bottle before release. There is no oak to get between the grape and the place, leaving Grillo’s citrus, herbs, white stone fruit, and naturally savory character at the center of the wine. Even the label belongs specifically to Sicily. LunaGaia draws its imagery from the island’s Opera dei Pupi, the traditional Sicilian puppet theater recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, with each bottling connected to characters from Ludovico Ariosto’s Orlando Furioso. Agramante takes its name from the African king and adversary of Charlemagne in the epic. Inside the bottle, the connection to Sicily is just as direct: ripe white peach and grapefruit meet citrus blossom, mint, sage, mineral notes, and a saline finish that makes the 2025 as refreshing as it is unmistakably Mediterranean.
