Ex Post Facto is a different lens on the same place: completely destemmed, raised in neutral barrels and made for purity, energy and immediate pleasure. The 2025 is only the second vintage, and at thirty bucks, it may be the easiest introduction to Brewer’s work we have seen. Ex Post Facto comes from selected blocks within his Sta. Rita Hills estate vineyards, vines he has farmed and interpreted for years. Rather than extended élevage, the focus here is preserving the fruit’s immediacy. This isn’t Brewer-Clifton made to hit a lower price. It’s a separate idea, giving Brewer another way to express the place he has spent his career studying. That may be the point of Ex Post Facto. All that experience has been channeled into a Pinot meant simply to deliver pleasure. Estate fruit, Greg Brewer behind the bottle, and $29.99 on the price tag. It tends to disappear quickly from both the table and the cellar.
