Vaughn Duffy’s 2024 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir puts small-winery focus behind a very approachable price. Pinot has been central to Matt Duffy and Sara Vaughn’s work since they founded the winery in 2009, and production remains intentionally limited. Their wines are built in small lots from carefully chosen vineyards, with a clear emphasis on place rather than volume. That starts with the growers. Vaughn Duffy works across Sonoma County and the broader North Coast, seeking sites for the individual character they bring to the cellar. Matt’s goal isn’t to shape every vineyard into one house style, but to preserve the differences created by site, vintage and farming. The same restraint carries into the cellar, where Vaughn Duffy favors gentle extraction, thoughtful oak use and balance over force. It’s an approach that gives Pinot Noir room to remain expressive, and with 93 points from Wine Enthusiast and a $45 price, the 2024 makes a very convincing case for doing less, better.
