Gemischter Satz is one of Austria’s most distinctive wine traditions: different grape varieties planted together, harvested together and fermented together, allowing a vineyard to speak as a whole rather than as a collection of individual parts. There is no attempt to bury the vineyard beneath oak or cellar technique. Behind it is the Landauer-Gisperg family, whose vineyards around Tattendorf, Baden, Pfaffstätten and Gumpoldskirchen have been farmed organically for more than two decades. Their wines are certified organic and vegan, but the significance of this bottle reaches beyond certification. Gemischter Satz preserves an old idea of winegrowing in which diversity exists within the vineyard itself, and the final wine is created from that diversity rather than assembled afterward. The 2023 captures that philosophy in an especially refreshing form: lively, expressive and beautifully direct, an Austrian white whose charm lies in how naturally fruit, freshness and tradition seem to arrive in the same glass.
