Bold and generous aromas of blackberries, coffee beans, licorice and dried herbs. The palate is full-bodied with firmly framed tannins and balanced acidity, giving earthy dark-fruit notes that finish with a savory touch. Great value. Drink or hold.

Based on 48% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot and aged in 20% new French oak, the 2023 Quartet offers ripe black cherries, tobacco, black olive, and chocolate-driven aromatics. It's medium to full-bodied and has a round, lush, layered mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and beautiful purity. I love its tannins, and it's going to evolve for 10-15 years with ease. There are 865 cases produced. Drink 2025-2040.

Wine Advocate

Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville, with smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah from Carneros, Marietta's 2023 Quartet Red Wine remains an excellent value in Napa's overall pricing scheme. Deep and dark, with cassis and blackberries leading the way, this is full-bodied and concentrated, capped off by a long, softly tannic finish.

About This Wine

The 2023 Arietta Quartet captures something increasingly rare in Napa Valley: restraint without sacrifice. From the moment the wine opens in the glass, it feels composed rather than showy, drawing you in with layers of blackberry, cassis, graphite, tobacco leaf, and dried herbs that unfold slowly and deliberately. Arietta has long pursued a more classical interpretation of Napa Cabernet-based blends, favoring structure, freshness, and detail over sheer size, and the Quartet has become one of the winery’s clearest expressions of that philosophy. Crafted under the direction of acclaimed winemaker Andy Erickson, the 2023 vintage leans into the remarkable balance of the growing season, delivering richness and concentration while maintaining remarkable precision. What makes the Quartet so compelling is the architecture beneath the fruit. Built primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the wine moves with a seamless, almost orchestral rhythm across the palate. Dark cherry, crushed blackberry, espresso, cocoa, and savory mineral tones emerge in waves, supported by finely woven tannins that give the wine shape without ever becoming heavy. The restrained use of new French oak allows the vineyard character to remain front and center, preserving both purity and energy. There is depth here, certainly, but also lift, tension, and remarkable clarity. It feels unmistakably Napa Valley, yet filtered through a lens of old-world sensibility that gives the wine its unmistakable identity. Arietta’s roots have always been tied to artistry, even its name inspired by Beethoven’s final piano sonata, and that sense of composition runs through every aspect of the Quartet. The fruit is sourced from some of the cooler, more nuanced sites in southern Napa Valley, particularly Coombsville and Carneros, where longer growing seasons preserve aromatic complexity and natural acidity. The result is a wine that never rushes its story. It builds slowly, confidently, leaving behind echoes of black fruit, warm spice, crushed stone, and cedar long after the final sip. The 2023 Arietta Quartet is not simply impressive for its richness or pedigree. What makes it unforgettable is its sense of balance and intention, a wine of sophistication and quiet authority that rewards attention with every passing moment.
