2022 MORGAN TWELVE CLONES SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS PINOT NOIR Destined for a path in veterinary medicine, Dan Morgan Lee's academic journey at UC Davis took a fortuitous turn. He discovered a deep-seated passion for the art of enology. After earning a graduate degree, Dan honed his craft at esteemed wineries, nurturing a distinctive winemaking style. In 1982, fueled by expertise and a clear vision, Dan and his wife Donna embarked on a new chapter, founding Morgan Winery. Nestled in the Santa Lucia Highlands, a region renowned for its cool climate and perfect for cultivating Pinot Noir, Morgan Winery prioritizes sustainable farming practices. This dedication to environmental responsibility translates into the purity and elegance of their wines. The 2022 Morgan 12 Clones Pinot Noir embodies this commitment. A masterful blend, it skillfully weaves together twelve distinct Pinot Noir clones sourced from the region's finest vineyards, with a notable 61% hailing from the prestigious Double L Vineyard. This meticulously crafted expression captures the harmonious essence of the Santa Lucia Highlands, delivering a beautifully balanced and richly nuanced experience for the discerning palate. WINERY NOTES: The grapes were hand sorted in the vineyard and again at the winery before being completely destemmed. Whole berry fermentation started using native and cultured yeasts in small, open top tanks. After fermentation, the wine was transferred to 36% new French oak for nine months of aging. The 2022 Twelve Clones has the power, balance, and finesse typical of SLH pinot noir. Notes of cherry cola, dried herbs, and leather are joined by mild tannins and elegant acid. Wonderfully balanced with a long finish, it aims to please any pinot noir lover. Food accompaniments include lamb, grilled line- caught salmon, BBQ chicken, and duck confit.
