The 2021 Grenache (Sta. Rita Hills) is fabulous. A blend of Spear, Robert Rae and Peake Ranch, the Sta. Rita Hills are all nicely dialed up in this layered, resonant Grenache. All the elements are so well balanced. There's real depth and substance here.

The appellation 2021 Grenache Sta. Rita Hills has a savory, underbrush, black cherry, and darker raspberry-driven perfume. This carries to a medium-bodied, silky, incredibly pure Grenache offering present yet ripe, silky tannins, no hard edges, and outstanding length. As with all the Grenache releases here, it’s not about power or richness and is closer in style to Pinot Noir. It is, however, beautifully done in the style.

2021 CLEMENTINE CARTER STA. RITA HILLS GRENACHE Sonja Magdevski is the talented proprietor of Clementine Carter, whose first career in journalism transferred over into a passion for wine and now has over 20 years of winemaking experience, focusing on Rhône varietals. Centering her brand on top-quality Grenache and Mourvèdre, over the years, Sonja has worked with nearly every Grenache vineyard in Santa Barbara County, allowing her to pursue the ideal fruit for the wine style she envisions. The Sta. Rita Hills AVA is her favorite growing region, and she hand-selects premium vineyard sites to source fruit for her wines. For the 2021 vintage, she blended fruit from the Robert Rae Ranch, Spear, and Peake Ranch vineyards, using 100% whole-cluster fermentation, and aged in used French barrels, preserving the fruit’s innate character and bouquet of spices. The results speak for themselves.
