2019 WAITS-MAST NASH MILL VINEYARD ANDERSON VALLEY PINOT NOIR Brian Mast and Jennifer Waits founded Waits-Mast in 2005 and created a brand whose core passion centers around premium, vineyard-designated Pinot Noir. Shalini Sekar joined the team as the winemaker in 2013, previously developing her foundation in music by earning a Master’s Degree in Flute and Piccolo Performance, now using that same precision, balance, and determination in her winemaking. The Nash Mill Vineyard is sustainably farmed and sits around twelve miles from the Pacific Ocean in one of the coolest sections of the Andreson Valley AVA. The cooler temperatures allow for a longer hangtime and for the grapes to develop remarkable complexity while maintaining fresh acidity. The various loam soils provide mineral-based complexity, and the 2019 vintage gave wines with intense flavors that are enormously enjoyable on their own and a decadent enhancement to any meal. Winemaker's tasting notes: The wine has a brilliant medium garnet color in the glass. As it opens up, the wine reveals aromas of bing cherry compote, asian 5 spice, and clove. Hold your glass up to the light and see the translucence of this cool-climate Pinot Noir. The palate fills the mouth with a mix of fresh and sweet cherry, a softness balanced with bright acidity. As the wine lingers, intense pure cherry flavors underpinned by cola nut, cocoa and sandalwood begin to surface. Complex yet remarkably fresh, this wine is quite enjoyable now, but can age for 7+ years. 98 cases produced.
