Summit Lake Vineyards, a cherished estate winery nestled on Howell Mountain, began its story in 1971 with a truly romantic gesture. Bob Brakesman surprised his wife, Sue, by gifting her the winery’s 28-acre property. Eight of these acres were already home to pre-prohibition Zinfandel vines, a testament to the vineyard’s rich history. Renowned for producing Napa Valley’s most robust and complex wines, Howell Mountain is the ideal location for this Zinfandel. Harvested from ancient, head-trained vines—some dating back to 1900 and others planted in 2000 and 2005—the 2019 vintage is a harmonious blend of tradition and vitality. It offers a quintessential expression of Howell Mountain Zinfandel, rich in character yet imbued with the youthful verve of its younger vines.
