Vinous

A dazzling wine, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is also a big step up from the 2014 tasted alongside it. The flavors are deep and expressive in a wine that captures the essence of Howell Mountain. Blueberry jam, crème de cassis, lavender, licorice and menthol fill out the wine's ample frame effortlessly. The 2015 is vivid, dramatic and drop-dead gorgeous. That's all there is to it.

Jeb Dunnuck

Looking first at the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, which comes all from Howell Mountain and spent 18 months in 80% new French oak, this ripe, full-bodied, classic Mountain Cabernet offers up plenty of savory herbs, mountain scrub brush, sage, pine, and assorted blue fruits. It has terrific freshness, building structure, and is a serious wine that deserves 2-4 years of bottle age. 95+ Points

About This Wine

More About the 2015 Selah Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon The 2015 vintage in Napa Valley demanded discipline. With smaller yields and naturally concentrated fruit, it forced a choice: chase power, or preserve proportion. The 2015 SelahHowell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon never hesitates. From the first impression, it leans into structure and clarity, allowing the vintage to speak with precision rather than amplification. At its core is a three-acre vineyard on Howell Mountain, farmed with exacting care by Josh Clark. Clark works the site block by block, guided by restraint and an instinct for timing, letting the vineyard dictate each decision. You can feel that discipline in the glass. The fruit is clear, focused, and unforced, shaped by attention rather than intervention. Under the hand of Thomas Rivers Brown, the wine finds its balance. Today, it is in a beautiful place, open, layered, and deeply satisfying, yet there is a quiet sense that it is only beginning to show what it can become. The structure remains intact beneath the surface, promising years of continued evolution. It is the kind of wine you do not rush, one you return to and discover even more each time.
