About This Wine

More about the 2014 HUMANITAS PISCIS VINEYARD NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON For those who followed Humanitas closely, Signum left a lasting mark. Named Wine of the Year by us in 2017, it became one of the winery’s most sought-after bottlings, and requests for it continue long after its final release. While Signum is now firmly in the rearview mirror, the 2014 Humanitas Piscis Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon stands as its closest stylistic counterpart. Among the winery’s single-vineyard Cabernets, it is the most expansive and opulent expression, distinguished by its depth, generosity, and unapologetically hedonistic profile. The wine unfolds with layers of dark berry fruit, tobacco nuance, espresso-like richness, crème de cassis, and subtle herbal tones, delivering a sense of indulgence that sets it apart within the lineup. The character of the wine is inseparable from its source. Piscis Vineyard is located in St. Helena, an area known for producing Cabernet Sauvignon of concentration, polish, and depth. St. Helena is notably warmer than many central Napa appellations, averaging approximately 5½ degrees warmer than Rutherford and more than 11 degrees warmer than Oakville. These conditions favor full phenolic ripeness, yielding fruit with plush texture and natural richness while maintaining structure. That warmth translates directly into the wine’s tactile appeal. Cabernet Sauvignon from St. Helena is prized for its finely grained tannins and sensual mouthfeel, qualities that are clearly expressed in the 2014 Piscis Vineyard bottling. The wine’s richness is balanced by control and proportion, allowing its intensity to feel seamless rather than excessive. At a release price of $39.99, it represents a rare opportunity to experience a top-tier, single-vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet that delivers both immediacy and depth, echoing the spirit of Signum while standing confidently on its own.
