2018 TILTH OLD VINE ZINFANDEL
$25.00 $25.00
Jason and Hilary Driscoll formed Tilth as an exploration into California’s treasury of soils. The brand is new, and the owners are hungry to create wines of unparalleled value that celebrate the land. Their 2018 Zinfandel makes no excuse at its modest price, and it was a front-runner at our tasting, where we tried it alongside seven other higher-end Zinfandels, with its value price unknown to us at the time.
Winemaker Jason Driscoll cut his teeth in the wine industry as a cellar hand at Hunnicutt before becoming assistant winemaker at Desante, where he worked under owner/winemaker Dave Desante.
Jason called on 50-100-year-old Zinfandel vines grown in pure sand soils at Del Barba Vineyard in Contra Costa County to create this wine. He completed the blend with Syrah and Carignan, and at the winery, performed twice-daily punch-downs, extracting depth and color, before aging the wine for 17 months in barrel.
