2014 VALDEZ SONOMA COUNTY ZINFANDEL
Bold, concentrated and balanced are all fitting descriptors for the New 2014 Valdez Sonoma County Zinfandel… Their 2013 St Peter’s Church Zinfandel ranked as our #4 wine on our top 5 list last year, out of 5,600 wines tasted, and the 2014 Sonoma County bears many of the same qualities and stylistic features that made the St. Peter’s Church so irresistibly stunning. The winery was founded by the late Ulises Valdez, one of California’s most sought after wine growers, revered for farming vineyards for Aubert, Kistler, Paul Hobbs and others. When he wasn’t farming for California’s most elite vineyards, he was cultivating his dream of building a successful brand, and his children continue in his legacy of hard-work, passion, and family.
Combining fruit from Dry Creek, Russian River and Alexander Valleys, I brought this wine to dinner with friends and we were floored by the sheer and unrestrained quality. The 2014 is profoundly structured with a center core of fruit that’s brawny and concentrated, finishing with a long and expansive finish. If you’re searching for a stunning red to take your house wine to a new level this year… This is it.

Winery Notes: "Aromas and flavors of juicy blackberries and currants are expressed in the 2014 Valdez Zinfandel. This wine has fresh acidity and light tannins that are in harmonious balance while hints of licorice and spice linger on the finish. Fruit for this wine is sourced from 3 different Sonoma County AVAs: Dry creek, Russian River Valley, and Alexander Valley."
