2012 W.H. SMITH “SONOMA COAST” PINOT NOIR
Highly Reputable Pinot Noir producer W.H. Smith has crafted some of the worlds most celebrated Pinots. Their 2003 Maritime Vineyard Pinot ranked as the #15 Wine in the World in the Wine Spectator Top 100 list of 2005, with a 97 point rating…
Proprietor Bill Smith founded La Jota winery in the 1980s, and was a pioneer in the development of and mapping of the Howell Mountain Appellation of Napa Valley. According to the Pinot Report, “Friend and winemaker Helen Turley inspired Bill Smith to try his hand at Pinot Noir.”
W.H. Smith produces a couple of single Vineyard Pinots that retail for around $50/btl. In a great vintage like 2012, even the entry level Sonoma Coast bottling is of outstanding quality. In fact, the 2012 Sonoma Coast drinks more like a Pinot you’d expect to pay around $50/btl, and it was a real stand-out at our recent tasting.

Winery Notes: "Garnet in color, our Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir has a warm, sweet spicy aroma with hints of dried fruit. On the palate, there dark fruit flavors of plum, dark cherry, and blackberry. Its beautifully layered aromatics and silky mouth feel encourage another sip."
