Literally growing up on his family’s vineyard in France, Luc Morlet has extensive experience making wine in Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, Southern France and now California. In 1996 Luc replaced John Kongsgaard as director of winemaking at Newton Cellars where he crafted the renowned “Newton Unfiltered” Chardonnay through 2000. It was in Spring of 2001 that Luc joined Peter Michael Winery continuing the legacy of Helen Turley and Mark Abuert. Crafting Peter Michael from 2001 through 2005, Luc solidified himself as one of the most talented and accomplished winemakers in the world… Luc remains involved with Peter Michael Winery as consulting winemaker, advising his brother Nicolas Morlet who succeeded Luc as winemaker.

Description

2012 MORLET “EN FAMILLE” PINOT NOIR

From Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, “Medium red, a bit darker than the Coteaux Nobles. Less fruity and spicy on the nose today, with the strawberry and cherry aromas currently dominated by mocha, graphite and leather. Much tighter in the mouth as well, but showing a lovely balance between its savory earth and brown spice elements and its deep red fruits. Best today on the long finish, which reveals sweet tannins and a light touch. Try this with squab with foie gras en papillote, says Morlet” 93 Points
