2015 CHÂTEAU REDORTIER GIGONDAS
Gigondas wines are recognized for their power, raw edge, and sauvage, as the French would say, which means savage or wild. The region is in the Southern Rhone Valley, East of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and the wines are predominantly Grenache-based. Chateau Redortier’s 2015 is, as The Wine Advocate writes, “A top-notch effort.” What makes it extra special is, as noted by Vinous, the wine is “surprisingly graceful,” and combined with the wild nature of Gigondas, it is truly something to behold.
Chateau Redortier’s 2015 release combines 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, and the grapes come from a hillside vineyard where the iron-rich clay-limestone soils produce remarkable fruit, with precise clarity.
2015 was one of the area’s best vintages, and the Wine Spectator notes, “Grenache and Mourvèdre excelled; reds are rich, ripe and full of powerful fruit.”, and they scored the overall vintage 97 points. If you’re looking for a classic Gigondas with a touch of elegance, this is it.
