Undiscovered wineries with top-level winemaking, and great vineyard sourcing usually means you need to move quickly, because they rarely stay undetected for long. We introduced Ellman last Fall and the winery already has a following in our shop. The wines are made by Andy Erickson, Screaming Eagle winemaker from ’05 – ’10, and he also makes Mayacamas which just ranked #2 in the recent Wine Spectator Top 100.
Cut from the winery’s Estate vineyard in the foothills of Atlas Peak, the 2018 Ellman Sauvignon Blanc stands out for having stunning clarity and remarkable balance. It was kept for just 7 months in neutral barrels, which preserved the purity and vibrancy of fruit. The style is clean and focused, with defined impressions of shaved lemons, ripe tangerine, citrus oil and white flowers. It’s truly stunning.
