2018 SYNTHESIS RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY ESTATE PINOT NOIR
Martin Ray’s made their Synthesis Pinot Noir in a plush, crowd-pleasing style that’s packed with red fruits, plum, and spice. They sourced the fruit from the winery’s 12-acre vineyard in the heart of the Russian River Valley comprised of six revered Dijon Pinot Noir clones including 667, 777, 115, 828, 943, and 337. This mix gives the winemaking team a broad spectrum of flavors, aromas, mouthfeel, and all other components necessary to create the best wine possible from the estate. With a 94 point score from James Suckling, it shows they did an outstanding job.
Martin Ray’s winemaking team includes consulting winemaker Keith Emerson, who also makes the Vineyard 29 wines. At the winery, every step is taken to create the best expression of the estate vineyard, including fermenting each clone separately in open top fermenters before combining them into the mix one clone at a time.
The Estate Vineyard is comprised of well-drained Goldridge soils which are highly regarded for growing premium Pinot Noir grapes. In 2018, mother nature delivered an idyllic vintage from start to finish, and this wine offers a meaningful glimpse of this remarkable vintage.
