2017 ALEXANA TERROIR SERIES WILLAMETTE VALLEY PINOT NOIR
Alexana’s Terroir Series could be the poster child for Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, and they created it from diverse clonal selections encompassing five of Willamette Valley’s top AVAs. The winemaking team checked every box when creating this perfect specimen of quality/value, including triple-hand-sorting, micro-fermentation, and utilizing gravity-flow. At $36, this always makes my short-list of favorite value Oregon Pinot Noirs.
Alexana is the sister winery to Revana Vineyards in St. Helena, and Bryan Weil, who previously worked at Domaine Serene, crafts their wine. He makes the Pinot in a style that glides seamlessly across your palate with a plump and velvety texture embedded with black raspberry, morello cherries, plum, and holiday spices.
The Estate farms their Vineyards Biodynamically, resulting in a pure and natural fruit expression, complemented with just ten months in barrel. The final blend encompasses a dozen Pinot Noir clones from Pommard to 115, 777, and La Tache, which shows in the vast complexity and delicately layered nuances.
