2015 ARGUS “CARNEROS” PINOT NOIR

Like finding that needle in a haystack, and after a grueling 75 wines tasted last week, we had a few that literally stopped us in our tracks, giving us an immediate feeling of euphoric delight.  It’s a grand feeling, like finally passing that exam that you studied for, for months (or years,) or watching your favorite team win a championship.  When you can find a wine that will give you that immediate gratification in this price range…  act quick, and stock up on whatever you can.  Better yet, it’s made by Chris Dearden, top-notch consultant who’s past and present clients include Biale, Shibumi Knoll, Inglenook, and the list goes on.

Created from the Las Amigas Patners and Doucette Vineyards in Carneros, and with tiny yields of just 1.7 and 1.5 tons per acre, the flavors have otherworldly focus, accentuated by lovely purity and definition.  Serenading your taste buds with wild strawberries, sweet roses, unsweetened cherry cobbler, Christmas spice and red licorice.  This is literally one of the best Pinots that I’ve tasted this year and it completely transcends this price point.
