2014 DOMAINE PHILIPPE GAVIGNET “BOURGOGNE ROUGE” PINOT NOIR

Bursting with vibrant energy and an engaging sense of swagger that immediately got my attention… Unfurling from the glass, a violet-scented bouquet, infused with succulent red fruits, fresh spiced black plum and white flowers, gradually building complexity and delineation with air.   Arising from vines nearing a half century in age, grown in Burgundy’s renowned village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, located near the Southern part of the iconic Côte-d’Or.  At $27.99/btl Philippe Gavignet’s 2014 Bourogne Rouge exceeded my expectations and is without a doubt one of the finest demonstrations of Bourgogne Rouge that I’ve ever tasted.

Noteworthy for its cerebral complexity, discernible by intriguing flavors that methodically unwind, reaching all ends of the fruit spectrum, laced with wild rose, mulberry, flower basket and touches of orange rind.  If you’re searching for a remarkably compelling Red Burgundy to enjoy on a regular basis… This is it.
