2013 CALERA “DE VILLIERS VINEYARD” PINOT NOIR
Whether featured on the cover of the Wine Spectator, named one of the top 100 Wineries by Wine & Spirts or clinching 95+ scores from Robert Parker, Calera’s brilliant Pinot Noirs from Mount Harlan have set the bar for what’s possible in California. Since his inaugural release nearly forty years ago, proprietor Josh Jensen has a magical touch when it comes to Pinot Noir. His Pinots are remarkable immediately upon release, and have proven to age for two decades in exceptional vintages.
Chosen for its limestone soils and ideal climate, Calera’s Mt. Harlan Estate is located in the Gavilan Mountains, 25 miles East of Monterey Bay. At 2,200 feet in elevation, it’s among the highest and coolest vineyards in California. With miniscule yields of just 1.07 tons per acre, the de Villiers block produces fruit of striking qualities and profound nuances. If you’re searching for a Pinot that will give you goose bumps now, and raise the hairs on the back of your neck when you taste it again 20 years from now… this is it.
