2014 DuMOL "JACK ROBERTS RUN" SYRAH
From The Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine, "No one is ever going to think of this wine as the little brother as it is anything but a smaller version of its marginally pricier Eddie's Patch sibling, and it could be argued that this one is the deeper, more muscular of the two. For sure, it is no shrinking violet with its concentrated blackberry fruit and roast beefy Syrah trimmings. It offers a somewhat more direct statement at this point and surely needs cellaring, but it is a wine of real accomplishment and deserves serious attention to go along with the five to ten years of development that lies ahead." 94 Points
From Vinous, "The 2014 Syrah Jack Robert's Run Estate Vineyard is super-refined and polished throughout. Almost Pinot-like in its personality, the 2014 is bright, focused and light on its feet. Sweet red stone fruit, wild flowers, mint, herbs and dried flowers are some of the signatures. In 2014, the Jack Robert's Run is all class. This is a strong set of new releases from DuMOL. Winemaker Andy Smith has really dialed in his approach here over the last few years, and it shows. Harvest dates have been moved up, while in general Smith is seeking a bit more freshness in his wines than was the case a few years ago. That is especially true of the Chardonnays, which now also spend eleven months in barrel followed by six months in tank, a fairly classic aging regime today in Burgundy that is less common in California." 93-96 Points
