2016 YOUNT RIDGE NAPA VALLEY PROPRIETARY RED
Did you know that many of Napa Valley’s most extraordinary and highest-scoring wines are blends? Just look at Harlan, Dominus, OPUS ONE, and Insignia… It’s clear that Napa isn’t only capable of producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, but other Bordeaux varieties thrive. Yount Ridge is strategically positioned directly South of OPUS ONE and next-door to Cardinale, and there they have 20 acres of organically farmed vineyards planted to iconic Bordeaux varieties… And wait until you see who makes their wine.
Celia Welch, who’s an absolute winemaking legend, produces the wines at Yount Ridge. You might recognize her artistry from Keever, D.R. Stephens, Barbour, and Dalla Valle, to name a few…
The 2016 vintage was a star at our recent tasting, and it’s a blend of 4 of the top 5 Bordeaux varieties; Petite Verdot, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon. They housed the wine for 20 months in oak, and this wine is coming up on two years in the bottle at this point. It’s absolutely rocking now and will age for another decade.
