2015 SKINNER “EL DORADO” MOURVEDRE
The first glance at the grape type may make you think you’re in the Bandol region of France, but make no mistake, this is clearly a new world wine. Skinner’s 2015 Mourvèdre charges from the glass with ebullient vivacity, unfolding a thick tapestry of crushed violets, black raspberries, caramelized cherries and spices. This beauty was expertly guided from grape to bottle by Chris Pittenger… Chris gained valuable, first-hand experience working at iconic wineries Marcassin and Williams Selyem… With tons of upfront appeal, this wine’s core of sweet fruit and its seamless palate presence, make it a wonderful entry into the magic of Mourvèdre.
Carved from five distinct vineyards, each site with varying soil types, micro-climates and elevations adds its own complex nuances and textures to the final blend. This wine is kept for 11 months in neutral oak barrels, preserving the wonderfully pure fruit, and exceptional detail. At $24.99/btl, this delicious red should not be overlooked.

2015 SKINNER "EL DORADO" MOURVEDRE
From Wine & Spirits, “2015 El Dorado Mourvedre (Best Buy) This is just plain delicious wine—its clean red-strawberry tone, velvety richness and refreshing acidity revealing the volcanic foothills of El Dorado County as prime mourvedre terroir. Chris Pittenger blended this wine from vines planted on granite and volcanic clays, and maybe it’s that complex patchwork of volcanic soils that accounts for the dark mineral structure knitting together all that fruit, a hint of what one taster called smoked paprika. With air, the flavor becomes increasingly clear and penetrating, taking on a delicate scent of woodland violets. Delicious now, this should gain dimension with time in the cellar…”
