2018 TY CATON UPPER BENCH MOON MOUNTAIN DISTRICT MERLOT

Ty Caton planted his estate vineyard in 1997 in the Moon Mountain District AVA, just north of the town of Sonoma on the Western slopes of the Mayacamas mountain range. This mountainous AVA is well known for its intensely concentrated fruit with a volcanic minerality that develops deeper flavors and structure from the western sunlight and the intricate complexity of the mountain soils not far from the Pacific Coast.

Ty’s love for farming soon became a passion for making wine, crafting his first small batch of 500 cases from his hillside vineyard in 2000. The Upper Bench Merlot has mountain fruit complexity and a solid yet silky structure, produced from sites that Ty selected for their potential to grow outstanding Merlot, and this bottle proves he was right.
