2013 FROSTWATCH “BENNETT VALLEY” MERLOT

Absolutely terrific stuff, and a wine Robert Parker calls “a stunner,” the Frostwatch 2013 Merlot is a hedonistic thrill-ride with classic and sexy Merlot notes around every turn.  A hair-raising bouquet of Ghirardelli Chocolate, roasted black fruits, toffee and mulberries, spiral from the glass in a lovely display of confidence and sophistication.  Arising from the newly formed Bennett Valley AVA, the 20 year old vines produce fruit of distinguished qualities.  Superbly concentrated, and from one of Northern California’s best vintages, this 2013 has already earned a well-deserved 94 point score from Robert Parker, and at $34.99/btl, there likely won’t be enough to meet demand.

Gracefully aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, this wine further elevated from more than 18 months developing inside the bottle.  The wine’s voluptuous core comes laced with assorted chocolates, coffee beans, dense cherry and black currants, all packed in a powerful and supportive frame.  Our panel was so enthralled by the quality of this Merlot, that we’re pouring it by-the-glass in our Yountville store… Come in for a taste.
