2019 PODERE BRIZIO ROSSO DI MONTALCINO

Located just outside Montalcino in southeastern Tuscany, Podere Brizio sits on top of a hill surrounded by olive trees and vineyards, looking over the historic landscape dedicated to a variant of Sangiovese named Brunello, or “little dark one.” Brunello grapes are slightly smaller and darker in color, contributing a more tannic structure and a deeper color in the finished wines.

Rosso di Montalcino DOC is an appellation within the same zone as Brunello di Montalcino DOCG that is not required to adhere to Brunello’s strict aging requirements, leading to fruity, lighter, more approachable wines that are commonly a fraction of the price. Podere Brizio’s 2019 Rosso di Montalcino DOC spent 12 months in untoasted French oak, preserving the wine’s fresh and natural fruit character, and it is an absolute delight for less than $30.
