Scarpa acquired their original estate, Poderi Bricchi, in 1969. It currently consists of 123 acres, with just over half of the estate planted to vines and the remaining forests and fields deliberately unplanted to maintain biodiversity. Surrounded by the hills of Monferrato, Scarpa’s estate vineyards are on a hill overlooking the town of Acqui Terme, capturing ideal sun exposure with moderating sea breezes.

Carlo Castino has been the lead winemaker for over 50 years and has been accompanied by his assistant winemaker Silvio Trichero since 2004, combining their heritage and passion for Piedmontese wines. The 2018 Barbera d’Asti was hand-harvested, fermented, and aged in stainless steel for one year and received no less than six months of aging in the bottle bringing forth a divine integration of flavors and aromas.

"The 2018 Scarpa “CasaScarpa” Barbera d’Asti begins with aromas of fresh lavender, dried thyme, cranberry, red cherry, earth spice, and smoke. On the palate, the wine has a bright acidity that highlights plum and strawberry fruit flavors with a hint of nutmeg. This wine pairs incredibly well with a patio and is an excellent option for the summer with its elegant body and fruit purity."
