2015 CLARA MARCELLI PICENO SUPERIORE ROSSO

$24.00 $24.00

Rosso means red in Italian, and with more than 500 grape varieties grown in Italy, there are numerous types of Italian Rossos. Rosso Piceno-Superiore combines Italy’s two most widely planted varietals; Sangiovese and Montepulciano. Superiore dictates that the grapes are grown in the Southernmost part of the Marche region. The wines can offer outstanding quality/value and have sophisticated aromatics, fresh, intense fruit, fine structure, and soft tannins. Clara Marcelli’s 2015 is a stunning example of just how good they can be, and at less than $30, it’s a tangible value.

Clara Marcelli and her two sons Emanuele and Daniele Poletta, farm their vineyards organically using century-old methods. Their vineyards are densely planted to 1400 vines per acre, grown in clay soils, and produce an elegant expression of their variety and place.

Marco Casolanetti, the consulting winemaker, is one of the most renowned winemakers in the Marche region, and his Oasi degli Angeli wines sell for a couple hundred per bottle. This 2015 Rosso Piceno-Superiore is a classic blend of equal parts Montepulciano and Sangiovese, fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged for 16 months in oak.
