2015 CHATEAU HAUT-SEGOTTES SAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU
I knew the instant that I tasted Château Haut-Segottes Saint-Émilion Grand Cru that I had just stumbled across something truly special. When I learned their parcels are found on the same plateau, and just 300 Meters (.18 miles) from Saint Emilion’s most iconic producer, Château Cheval Blanc, the penetrating flavors and profound focus made perfect sense. At under forty bucks, and with a 94 Point score from James Suckling, you simply have to try it.
The 2015 vintage set a record for perfect 100 Point wines from Wine Enthusiast, and around half of those were from Saint Émilion. The Wine Spectator rated the overall vintage 97 Points, noting Saint Émilion was the sweet spot…
Like most wines in Saint Émilion, Château Haut-Segottes is based around a core of 60% Merlot, and similar to its close neighbors Château Cheval Blanc, and Château-Figeac, Château Haut-Segottes is balanced with a notable percentage of Cabernet Franc, which achieves an incredible layered complexity in the gravel and dark sand soils.
