2012 AIA VECCHIA “SOR UGO” SUPER TUSCAN
Located in Italy’s famed Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Aia Veccia’s vineyards are in the same elite neighborhood as Italian legends Ornellaia and Sassicaia, which both retail in the $200/btl range. At a fraction of the price of its neighbors, Aia Veccia’s Sor Ugo has rock-star quality and is one of our most loved and re-ordered Italian wines with each and every vintage.
Habitually high scoring, the ’07, ’08 and ’09 vintages earned two 95 Point Reviews and one 94 from the Wine Enthusiast, which also awarded the ’07 the honor of being the # 12 spot on their top 100 list. This is a deeply layered and enticing blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon magnified with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine spends 18 months in oak and a year in the bottle before release. I highly recommend a case of Sor Ugo before this one runs out.
