There are just a handful of vintages in history that are so exemplary that they set a precedent of what’s possible in a given region.  The 2005 vintage in Bordeaux was one of the greatest in history, and in the Left Bank of Bordeaux, The Wine Spectator rated the overall vintage 98 points, referencing, “Fabulous aromas and great length; wines with depth, structure and finesse.”  Chateau Peyrabon is a grand example of the entire reach of the 2005 vintage, and how smaller, lesser known wineries fared.  Even after 13 years in the bottle, this wine is perfectly ready to drink and even has a few years left of prime enjoyment.  The winery itself dates back to the mid 1700’s, and in 1998 it was purchased by Patrick Bernard, and he’s taken the estate to an even higher level.  At under $40, this beautiful Bordeaux is absolutely rocking.

Chateau Peyrabon’s vineyards are densely planted to nearly 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, with a small plot of Petit Verdot.  The vines are grown in a mix of well-drained sand, gravel, clay, and limestone rich soils, and the wine itself elegantly expresses the terroir of the property.  Our panel was captivated by how well their 2005 was showing and we couldn’t wait to share it with you.

From Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, "A seductive style of wine in 2005, this Peyrabon has a deep ruby/purple color and round, juicy blackcurrant and black cherry fruit along with some licorice and floral notes. It is medium-bodied, surprisingly silky and concentrated. Drink this sleeper of the vintage over the next 5-7 years."
