NV SHOTTESBROOKE “ADELAIDE HILLS” 1337 BLANC DE BLANC
$30.00 $23.00 $23.00
Our panel tastes quite a few Sparkling wines every week, with the vast majority being French, followed by Domestic and a sprinkling of Italians. As many as we taste, it’s rare for us to try a Blanc de Blanc from Australia, and to be honest, we were shocked by how much we enjoyed this one. The wine was created from 100% Chardonnay grapes and offers a kaleidoscope of white and orange fruits with hints of shaved almonds and minerals. It is bright, vibrant, and full of energy and it’s surprisingly well-balanced. This one is meant to be accessible and ready to enjoy now, and with the bottle cap enclosure, why not. Although, like most Sparkling wines, the higher acidity and carbon dioxide act as preservatives and will allow the wine to age for several years, and as it does, it will become even deeper and more complex.
Emerging from the Adelaide Hills of Southern Australia, one of Australia’s cooler growing regions and one with a significant diurnal variation in temperature between the cool nights and warm days. This allows the Chardonnay to maintain beautiful, bright acidity. With the wide range of Sparkling wines produced in the world, it can be fun to experiment and you might end up as surprised as our panel was when you taste one from a new region and exceeds all expectations.
