2015 ALMA de CATTLEYA “SONOMA COUNTY” CHARDONNAY
Loaded with class, harmonious balance and style, Columbia born, French trained winemaker Bibiana Gonzalez Rave, has just taken the value-Chardonnay world by storm with her new project, Alma de Cattleya. Many of you may recognize Bibiana Gonzalez as the winemaker for Pahlmeyer… She’s also previously made wines at Lynmar and has extensive experience making wine in France. Our entire tasting panel simultaneously dropped our jaws when we learned this wine was under forty per bottle… Let alone under twenty five… Yes, it is that good!
Arising from methodically selected vineyards in Sonoma County, and authored using the same exacting standards as her Cattleya single vineyard Chardonnays which retail for around $70/btl and garner mid 90 point scores. The moment it hits your palate, this wine’s remarkable weight and ornate texture, gives you the impression that you’re tasting a MUCH higher-priced California Chardonnay. Flavors of poached pear, honeyed nectarine, golden apple and hints of almond unwind effortlessly… If you’re searching for Grand Cru level Chardonnay at a Village Wine price… This is it.
