2014 BLACK CORDON RESERVE RUSSIAN RIVER CHARDONNAY
Have you ever wondered what it takes to make a rich, buttery Chardonnay? It starts in the vineyard with ripe fruit that’s bursting with flavor. The winemaker then barrel ferments the grapes in order to increase depth and richness. Next, you’ll convert the crisp malic acid, (think Green Apples), into softer lactic acid (think butter and milk). This conversion process produces diacetyl which is what gives butter its flavor. Want to taste a perfect example of this? Black Cordon’s 2014 Reserve Chardonnay is one of the biggest, richest, most buttery and opulent Chardonnays that I’ve tasted all year… It was mindfully created by Julian Gonzalez who gained experience as head winemaker for Paul Hobbs consulting where he worked on some of Napa and Sonoma’s most sought after wines.
This Chardonnay comes from the iconic UV Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. On the palate the wine has significant weight and decadent texture and as the wine opens up, exquisite flavors wrap your palate in a silky blanket, laced with Lemon Meringue, buttered pear, vanilla and hints of caramel. This is a stunning example of a true California Style Chardonnay and it should not be missed.
