2013 CHALONE “ESTATE” CHARDONNAY, CHALONE AVA
$26.99 $26.99
One of California’s most celebrated vineyards, Chalone made history at the 1976 Judgement in Paris when their 1974 Chardonnay came in 3rd place. Perched at 1800 feet above the Salinas Valley, Chalone was the first winery in California to apply for AVA status, and in 1982 the Chalone AVA was established. With vines dating back to 1919, the area is unique for it’s rich limestone soils and micro-climates, producing immensely appealing wines that are effortlessly nuanced and remarkably defined.
Winemaker Dick Graff pioneered the intricacies of malolactic fermentation, a technical method now widely used that gives wine a rounder mouthfeel. The Estate Chardonnay was barrel fermented and aged sur lie, a French term meaning literally ‘on the sediment.’ The 2013 saturates your palate with expansive flavors and textural elegance and profound richness. If you’re searching for delicious Chardonnay to serve your friends and family this summer… This is it.

2013 CHALONE "ESTATE" CHARDONNAY, CHALONE AVA
Winery Notes: "...gorgeous aromas of peach, pear, golden apple and citrus laced with hints of spice from French oak. The deliciously fruit-expressive flavors fan out across the palate and reveal the complex mineralogy, bright acidity and opulent texture that are the signatures of 2013 CHALONE limestone terroir. Malolactic fermentation added seductive nuances of crème brûlée to the long finish, while sur lie aging enhanced the silky mouthfeel."
