2018 KRUPP BROTHERS M5 STAGECOACH VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON
In the mid-1990s, 750 acres went up for sale on Atlas Peak, but many growers were hesitant to jump on the deal because the land was laden with volcanic rocks and boulders and without road access or water. Dr. Jan Krupp had recently purchased 40 acres in the near vicinity and was interested in expanding, so when he fell in love with the property after a tour, he bought it, hired a water witch, and got down to business.
Krupp Brothers Stagecoach Vineyard was born after discovering an underground river, moving more than one million tons of rock, and constructing a winding road requiring 135 legal documents. The M5 is their flagship wine sourced from the same small block of grapes each year from cuttings brought over from Chateau Latour. The wine is intensely captivating, superiorly concentrated, and might be the greatest wine I’ve tasted this year.
