2018 HEIR APPARENT NAPA VALLEY RESERVE CABERNET
Grand Napa Winery, which produces Heir Apparent, excelled in 2018. Winemaker Dwight Bonewell’s skills as a master of assemblage matched beautifully with a benchmark year for quality and quantity. Improved yields created greater access to some of Napa Valley’s most coveted vineyards, resulting in superb quality that’s very identifiable in your glass. Jeb Dunnuck writes that their 2018 Reserve Cabernet “shows the beautiful freshness and elegance of this vintage” and is “an outstanding wine.”
The 2018 vintage produced powerful wines with excellent flavor density and striking balance. Dwight created his Reserve Cabernet from a selection of outstanding vineyards in Rutherford, St Helena, and Coombsville, which results in a well-rounded wine that offers a vivid portrayal of the year. The winemaking team built this wine with 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, enhanced with Cabernet Franc and Malbec, and aged it for 22 months in Berger barrels, also used by Chateau Margaux.
