2016 CORNERSTONE BENCHLANDS NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Cornerstone Cellars began producing wines from Howell Mountain in 1991 and have since partnered with growers in Oakville, Rutherford, and Calistoga to create small-lot, terroir-expressive wines of outstanding quality. With access to some of the top vineyards in Napa Valley, the winery is a high-quality producer, and among the sub-$100 category for Napa Cabs, they’re a formidable contender.

Winemaker Kari Auringer worked under Celia Welch at Cornerstone before she became the lead winemaker and contributed to the fame of some of Napa’s most famous names, including Scarecrow, Keever, Kelly Fleming, and Corra. The 2016 Benchlands is a hallmark Cabernet Sauvignon blended from all of Cornerstone’s celebrated AVAs, including Oakville, Rutherford, and St. Helena, that is showing beautifully now with some additional time in the bottle.
